Blog Tour: Salmacis: Becoming Not Quite a Woman By Elizabeth Train-Brown

Hey Guys! Welcome to my spot on the Salmacis: Becoming not Quite a Woman Blog Tour. I would like to thank the lovely Will at Renard Press for being so kind and sending me a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Salmacis: Becoming not Quite a Woman by Elizabeth Train-Brown centres on (official blurb): “As recounted by the Roman poet Ovid, a young nymph, Salmacis, one day spied Hermaphroditus bathing; consumed with passion, she entered the water and, begging the gods to allow them to stay together, the two became one – part man, part woman. An Eclectic Pagan, for Elizabeth Ovid’s fables are more than fiction, and form a framework for exploring identity. Drawing on the rich mythological history associated with the tale of Salmacis and Hermaphroditus, and re-examining the tale through the lens of metaphor, Salmacis: Becoming Not Quite a Woman is a stirringly relatable and powerful exploration of gender, love and identity.”

Salmacis: Becoming Not Quite a Woman is such a powerful and well-written collection that explores such important themes such as: gender, love and identity. One I would definitely recommend to others however unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. But I’m most definitely excited to see what this poet writes next.

The key to success is to question your gender three times before breakfast and throw yourself at water nymphs.

One of my favourite elements when it came to this poetry collection is the fact you can see Elizabeth’s passion, love and knowledge of Ovid’s fables and I think that makes this poetry collection even more special because you as the reader can see the passion and love that Elizabeth put into this collection whilst writing it!
